April Meeting 2019

The April competition created a real challenge for members with the topic of Emotion, however a wide range of images were presented. The individual image was won by Andy Hunting with a classic wedding image with loads of emotion and a good composition. One can only guess as to the reason for the emotion. Andy took first place in the Group Competition.

Second place was taken by Sue West with an image showing “anxiety” showing excellent contrast between the skin and the lined face. Sue also took second place in the Group competition.

Third place in the Individual competition and fourth place in the Group were taken by Wally Lodge and St.John Burkett was fourth in the Individual and third in the Group competition.

March Meeting 2019

The Stamford and Rutland Photographic Society held their Digital Projected Image competition in March with the theme of Yellow. The competition was judged by Gareth Gough who had a difficult job due to the high quality of the 48 images entered into the competition. The final results showed a diverse range of subjects and photographic techniques.

Andy Hunting dominated the competition with a range of pictures that showcased his travels and a range of bold yellow objects

Veronica Watson was 2nd with a mixture of flowers and easter chickens that showed excellent composition and imagination

Gordon Brown was 3rd with a collection of wonderful underwater images showcasing clever lighting in difficult conditions

St.John Burkett was 4th with a range of different yellows. These included an image of a dew-spangled flower in which he had immaculately captured the details

February Meeting 2019

 

 

The competition subject for the February meeting of the Stamford and Rutland Photographic Society was “Speed” and this resulted in a wide interpretation of the subject being entered, including motorbikes, trains, bicycles and cars

Veronica Watson won the Individual monthly competition with her image of a cyclist at speed taken using a panning technique to freeze the cyclist but blur the background. Veronica was also successful in the Group competition where her selection of images took second place and wowed members with her selection of four images demonstrating a solid technique.

Tom Cargill came second in the individual section with strong image of two motorcycle speedway bikes in action. The red jacket of the front rider and the sharpness of the image making it very eye catching. This photo was also included in his series of images for the Group competition where he came first. All his images were on the same theme, accurately recording the riders’ speed and control of their machines.

Andy Hunting’s image of a Red Car in Cuba came in third place in the individual competition but his skilfully crafted selection of images including a horse with rider, canoeist and display aircraft resulted in third place as well in the Group competition.

A young surfer was the subject of St.John Burket’s fourth placed entry, capturing the excitement of the ride on the wave.

The next Stamford and Rutland Photographic Society meeting will be on Thursday 21stMarch, 8pm, when we the competition will be Digitally Projected Images with a subject of “Yellow” .

September Meeting – 2018

The September competition theme was Curves
 
1st in the individual was Tom Carlill who captured the curved loop in the Ingoldmells rollercoaster. His group also came 1st and covered a range of curves from different holiday destinations.

John Hillier was 2nd in the individual and 3rd in the group. His individual picture has airlines crossing within the curves of a sculpture in Barcelona
 
David Harris was 3rd in the individual and 4th in the group. His individual pictures was the curved smoke from an aircraft display at RAF Waddington
 
St.John Burkett was 4th in the individual competition with a curved path to the waterfalls at Plitvice in Croatia
