The Stamford and Rutland Photographic Society held their Print of the Year competition in December. For this, members can present one print (up to A4 in size) of any image of their own, with the proviso that it was taken during the course of the year.
The Society was pleased to welcome Andrew James from FotoBuzz – the online photo community – as the adjudicator for the evening. In a friendly and easy-going manner Andrew gave in-depth and very constructive critiques of all the images submitted. He was impressed by the standard of the photography displayed, but eventually selected the first four places as follows:
Tom Carlill achieved first place with his atmospheric image of a Vulcan Bomber, taken at Wellesbourne Airfield in rather wet and challenging conditions.
Veronica Watson came second with a rich and intricate image of autumn leaves and fruits.
Sue West took third place with her photograph of a beautiful rainbow in a darkened sky over the great salt marshes of the North Norfolk coast.
St John Burkett was fourth with an engaging image of a lone boy and his reflection among the fountains in Nice.
